Administration
St. Aloysius is fortunate to have strong leadership with extensive experience in education and administration.


John J. Lavagnino
President
John J. Lavagnino joined St. Aloysius as President in August of 2009 with extensive administrative and teaching experience. This experience spans over three decades serving two school districts in northern New Jersey. Most recently, Mr. Lavagnino held the position of Principal at Pequannock Township High School in Pompton Plains, New Jersey, leading a student body of 800 and over 100 faculty and staff.
From 1978 through 2004, Mr. Lavagnino was a member of the administration and staff at Hoboken High School, first as a teacher of mathematics for 10 years, then as a Department Head, a District Coordinator and a Supervisor of Instruction, where he developed community and business partnering programs, performed faculty evaluations, instituted professional development programs, and managed recruitment and human resources. From 2002 until 2004, he served as Principal of Hoboken High School, and in 2004 was named Director of Programs for grades 6 through 12.
Mr. Lavagnino received his Master of Education, Administration and Supervision from Jersey City State University and his Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from Pace University in New York City. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees at The Loyola School and President of The Candlewood Isle Tax District. In 1990, he received the Leadership Award for Excellence in teaching mathematics from the Stevens Institute of Technology. He has also served as a visiting member of The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and was elected President of the Hudson County Area Math Alliance. Mr. Lavagnino lives in New York City with his wife Ellen and their dog Chloe.


Carol Martino
Principal, Lower School
Carol Martino moved to St. Aloysius in July of 2008 from St. James Catholic School in Savannah, Georgia, where she taught third grade and served on a Diocesan committee to redesign the Math curriculum. Prior to her work at St. James, she spent two years teaching third grade at Notre Dame Academy in Savannah. Her service to Notre Dame Academy was part of the Alliance for Catholic Education program, run by the University of Notre Dame. This program serves under-resourced Catholic schools in the south, while providing professional, spiritual, and community support to new teachers. In addition, in the summer of 2006, Miss Martino served as a Mentor Teacher for the Alliance for Catholic Education Program in Notre Dame, where she supervised pre-service teachers during their summer practicum.
Miss Martino received her Masters degree in Education from the University of Notre Dame, where she also earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree. She is originally from Buffalo, New York.


Courtney Nunns
Principal, Middle Schools
Courtney Nunns joined the St. Aloysius Administrative team after serving as the
Coordinator and LSWG teacher for the Bowman program for one year. Previously,
she taught high school language arts and served as an administrative intern for two
years in Kansas.
Ms. Nunns started her language arts teaching career in 2003 in Kansas City, Kansas
at Washington High School. There she served as an administrative intern, the chair
of the literacy sub-committee for reaccreditation and was the coordinator of a Small
Learning Community. During her three years in Kansas City, she was also selected to
be a panel member for the Urban Education Initiative Network and was a member
of the building Leadership Team. Ms. Nunns worked on curriculum development for
the district and assisted in implementing an action-based research literacy program.
After moving to Olathe North High School in Olathe, Kansas, Ms. Nunns once again
served as an administrative intern and was chairperson of a Professional Learning
Community. She taught Advanced Placement language arts, as well as on-level
Language Arts classes, during her three years there.
Ms. Nunns received her Masters of Science in Education, School Leadership from
The University of Kansas and her Bachlor of Arts in English from The University of
Colorado. She is currently working on her Masters of Education, Leadership, Policy,
and Politics at Teachers College, Columbia University. In 2008 she was a Fulbright-
Hayes Scholar to Morocco, Africa. She has been nominated as a Who’s Who Among
American High School teachers. Ms. Nunns is originally from Hutchinson, Kansas.
