Actress Marcia Cross Visits St. Aloysius

Early Monday morning on March 9th, the entire St. Aloysius community was buzzing with the news of a special visitor. Complete with camera crews, photographers, and a host of behind the scenes helpers, actress Marcia Cross, best known for her long-time role on Desperate Housewives, visited St. Aloysius School's Renaissance Cafe to discuss healthy eating habits.
As part of our nutrition program, sponsored by the Food Bank for NYC, the series was part of our ongoing education on the importance
of a balanced diet . Ms. Cross led students through a simulated grocery store aisle, helping the children decide which items were healthy selections to put into their shopping bags.

St. Aloysius School's Renaissance Cafe is one of twenty Kid's Cafe programs in New York City sponsored by the Food Bank. The cafe serves approximately 200 students from September through July as an after-school meal program for children from low-income families. According to research by the Center on Hunger and Poverty, children who participate in Kids Cafe programs reported earning better grades in school, having more energy and were able to concentrate better.

Our students were overjoyed at meeting Ms. Cross and were thrilled to sit down and chat with her. She even took the time to autograph their chef hats. The event brought great media coverage to St. Aloysius and was co-sponsored by Mott's. |
