Extended Day
All middle school students at St. Aloysius are required to attend extended day programming after school, which offers our students an array of nourishing, fun, and challenging activities that extend learning beyond the regular school day.
All of our middle schoolers attend extended day programs after school. Activities include individual or group study, which is supervised by students' regular school-day teachers, who are available to assist with homework or other projects they have assigned. Students also take advantage of time at the computer, where they learn new skills, work on projects, visit approved websites and use educational software programs. Sports play an important role - including basketball, track and cross country - as do the arts. Our students take dance classes. In addition, after-school visual arts activities in a variety of media complement the art classes that are integrated into core subjects during the school day. All middle school students also are required to practice and perform oratory, which hones their presentation skills and offers opportunities to practice speaking clear, grammatically-correct English.
Extended day programming provides safe, nurturing, and engaging places for youngsters to play, learn and develop friendships during non-school hours, away from the dangers of the city streets. |
